Mental Health - Day 17
Psalm 42:11 “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.”
The mind, heart, and soul are some of the most complex parts of the human body. All three components make us who we are and how we function. We should have a sound mind, a pure heart, and a restful soul.
In this passage, we see David talking to himself and addressing issues in his soul. He brings up feelings like sad and disturbed, and he's trying to find the root of it. As David tries to figure out what’s happening inside him, he also commands himself to put his hope in God. He chooses to praise through the sadness and disturbance inside of him.
Mental health is vital as a Christ follower, and it's also an exercise of faith.
Troubles in our lives are unavoidable, but we determine what hold it has on our lives.
Amid fear, anxiety, depression, worry, and lack of concentration, we can command our souls to hope in God and focus on things above and not on things of this earth.
Prayer: Lord, I pray for a sound mind. Please teach me how to renew my mind daily and think about things above. I pray that you will help me to keep my heart pure. Be my guide and counselor when heartache comes. I pray that I may find rest for my soul in you. You are my source of peace. May I be satisfied with the peace and joy you give.
Amen.
