Finances - Day 5

Luke 6:38 Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.[a]”

This scripture is most often spoken by ministers during offering time. However, it is a word to the generous to remind themselves that a spirit of generosity will cause an overflowing waterfall of blessings in their life. If you’ve ever seen a rushing river ending with a huge waterfall like Niagara Falls, that’s what I imagine when I think of the blessings of God. We should never limit this scripture to money but open our understanding and see that giving is much more than dollars alone. You can give your time, talent, and treasure, and that’s just a start. Perhaps God is asking you to spend time with your neighbor or share your talent of organization with your church. When you give with the right attitude, God’s blessings will overflow your life like Niagara Falls.

One of the main things we can learn from this verse is that our blessing is tied to our willingness to bless. We should never feel coerced or forced into giving, but because we are followers of Jesus and He was a giver, we should want to be like him and live to give.

In what ways have you possibly ignored an opportunity for generosity?
When have you opened your heart in generosity and felt the overwhelming blessing of God afterward?

Prayer: Lord, each time an opportunity to give is before me, help me to see it and obey. As I obey you in the spirit of generosity, I thank you in advance that your blessing covers my life, fills my life, and overflows it like a huge waterfall.
