Prayer for identity in Christ - Day 14
“ But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
1 Peter 2:9
This description is in the Old Testament. “And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation” (Exodus 19:6). This is what God called Israel to be, but, for most of their history, Israel fell far short of this standard. They could hardly be characterized by holiness. However here in this chapter Peter is applying to the Believer, the church. He is in essence calling us higher. Who we are in relationship to God through His Son Jesus.
Holiness, when applied to people, essentially means the quality of being set apart by God to live morally upright and righteous lives based on the Word of God. This thought can be a bit intimidating, especially when most of us draw our identity from our parents, our culture, our experiences, and well, some of us, in light of present circumstances, we don’t quite feel Holy, or Royal nor special. We may even feel the total opposite, completely unworthy and a failure.
Have you ever heard someone say, “This is the way I’ve always been!” as if we had no choice. But we do. The day we said Yes to Jesus we chose better. We chose a New Life in Christ. We chose a better way, a new way, THE Way. Our whole direction changed. Our thinking changed. Our lifestyle changed. Our relationships changed. Our position changed. We became The Chosen. We became Royal, a royal priest. We became Holy, God’s special possession. What wonderful knowledge to know that God wants me for Himself. We find our Identity in Jesus, in God The Father, Citizens of Heaven, seated in heavenly places. I choose to believe that I am what He says I am.
To what purpose were we elevated to such a high and auspicious position? The answer, ”that you may declare the praises of Him that called you out of the darkness into His WONDERFUL light!!!” We are to go out and tell people about Him and what he has done for us. Testify of His greatness.
Today make a choice to believe for better. See yourself in the mirror of God’s Word. You can start by working on 3 things:
Read the Word: (out loud if you have to)”Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17
Believe The Word: “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone that comes to Him must first believe that He exits and that He is a rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6
Be a DOER of the Word: “Faith without works is dead.” James 2:17
Pray:
Lord, I am who YOU say I am. I am a child of the living God. Chosen to do greater things. I am a Royal Priest ministering to the Father, able to approach the Throne of Mercy and Grace, offering sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving before Him for His people. I am a Holy Nation. My children and my children’s children will know Your name and declare Your glory. I am God’s special possession held in high esteem, held by His strong arms, cherished and beloved of Lord God. Amen.
