A passion for reading the Bible - Day 12

Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭2:15‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Reading the Bible isn’t really as hard as it seems. Often we get hung up on searching for something between the lines when the Holy Spirit is speaking to us through the texts actual intent. I am inspired to read because I desire to learn more about the God we serve and the characteristics of His personhood.

The only way we can properly explain the Lords word or teach someone the gospel is if we are students of the word. Reading every day is not for everyone, most of us need a plan to follow so that we stay discipline in our readings. Everyone is different and I think there is a reading plan out there for everyone.

Try reading the Bible in large chunks. Not just the “verse of the day”. To truly understand the word you must know the context of the author, his intent and the intent of the Holy Spirit through the text.

Currently I am reading the Old Testament, and as I read it in large sections I am seeing it’s intertextuality. The constant theme is God’s people rebelling, and God then demonstrating His endless Grace and Mercy for His people that they are so undeserving of….and we are no different.

Prayer: Lord, create in me a passion for your word, a passion for who you are. I seek to understand your Holy word, so that I may be a vessel for your kingdom. Let your Holy Spirit guide my heart and my mind as I read. Teach me in your ways so that I may be a disciple, teach me and guide me in your will. Give me new passions for your divine revelation. I seek to know you above all things. You alone.
