Prayer for Joy - Day 4

Romans 15:13 (NLT) I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

A couple of weeks ago, after a church service, I began talking to a gentleman I had not seen in a while. As the conversation progressed, I wanted to see how he was doing. He told me proudly about all he had attained in vehicles, income, status, a home, and other resources. But there was a “but,” lol... He quickly stated, “But I have no joy in my life!”

As you read today’s devotional scripture, we must remember that God is not just “a” source. He is “The Source”!

Man’s faith and God’s filling are as connected as the foundation of everything. The attitude of trust is the necessary prerequisite condition of God’s being able to fill a man’s soul, and God’s being able to fill a man’s soul is the necessary consequence of a man’s heart!

Many times we try to find joy, only to end up sometimes finding happiness. Happiness usually comes from our state of being, whether we are having a great day or a bad one. You can also find unhappiness if your needs, wants, and desires are unmet.

One thing is for sure; God is our Source. Whether you are the wealthiest person or just getting by, you can miss the Joy of the Lord when you put your faith and focus on the things you have or don’t have.

Your circumstances, challenges, bank account, health, etc., should not determine your Joy.

Today, choose to trust in Him. It is then that you will receive His Joy! When you receive His Joy, you will experience His peace that will keep you anchored in Him through the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Lord, during these next 21 days, teach me to focus and trust you every day. Let me experience your joy and true peace in my life and everything connected to it. You are the source where everything flows, and I thank you for it. Help me to stay anchored in your presence so that I may not be swayed,  nor waiver from every promise you have for me. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen!
